Because I was a kounselor, I learned that everyone is different: different quirks, different goals, different fears, and different ideas. But, it is in these differences that we must learn to love and care for one another. Kamp is a place to feel accepted and to feel wanted, especially if you do not receive this at home.
Because I was a kounselor, I learned how to respond to other's needs before my own, and to understand that even the littlest action can make the biggest impact.
Because I was a kounselor, I felt loved and supported, and I hope this summer the girls felt that way, too.
Because I was a kounselor, I have made friends with the kinds of people I never would've talked to outside of Kamp.
Because I was a kounselor, I've gotten to discover and develop a side of myself I never knew existed.
Because I was a kounselor, I've learned how to keep smiling under pressure.
Because I was a kounselor, I've gotten the chance to give other girls the kinds of experiences that changed my life when I was their age.
Because I was a counselor, I am more confident in my own skin, and my ability to be a leader.
Because I was a counselor, I made friends from all over, and memories that will last a life time!
Because I was a kounselor, I became more aware of the people around me and their stories. Everyone has their story, and they're all worth hearing.
Because I was a kounselor, I have learned what it’s like to be the best you can be, which is just being yourself.
Because I was a kounselor, I have learned what it’s like to be on the verge of exhaustion and sleep deprivation, and yet not be able to stop smiling and bring down the positive vibes.
Because I was a kounselor, I have witnessed so many great friendships and memories form that it just brightens my day thinking about them.
Because I was a kounselor... I'm ready to be a leader and friend to everyone I work with.
Because I was a kounselor, I know how to communicate efficiently with others while maintaining a fun attitude.
Because I was a kounselor patience is now incredibly easy!
Because I was a kounselor, I also have a great group of kounselor friends that I'll be close with for the rest of my life!
Because I was a kounselor I can choose my attitude and make the most of any situation, which empowers me to make the most of every opportunity in life.
Because I was a kounselor I can communicate effectively with people of all ages: children, peers and parents alike. The perspective of various ages taught me things that aren't brought up in typical college life, and which will be applicable for the rest of my life.
Because I was a kounselor I am equipped with a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses and how I can use them to set and achieve goals. I also have a clearer perspective on how I can impact the world around me.
Because I was a kounselor I learned several life lessons. First don't take yourself too seriously or else you're in for a bad time. Second I learned that it's not all about me and to put someone else's happiness first instead of my own. Finally, because I was a kounselor, I am a strong independent woman who CAN pay the rent.
Because I was a kounselor...
I learned that you need very few things in life to be happy. Actually happy.
I learned that every single person, no matter how different, can teach you something you didn´t know if you´re willing to listen.
I learned to make the most of what the day brought with it. Blessings and lessons often came disguised as perceived problems.
I learned that having KK problems, like clogged toilets and crazy little girls running around being too busy playing, are not really problems at all.
I learned to say I am sorry.
I learned to say I respect you.
I learned to appreciate all the tiny little moments. You can see this moments more clearly at Kickapoo because life goes by slowly and simply. You get to see the mountains and the creek and the stars without feeling like life is rushing by.
I learned that sometimes you get lucky and you get to spend 6 weeks with +100 people, all of them trying and loving and caring for the place in the same way,
I learned to work, to wake up every morning, no excuses.
I learned to be passionate and to give my best at teaching what I knew.
I learned to stand up for myself.
I learned to be grateful
I learned about myself and what I need to work on to be better.
Those are only some of the most important things I learned by being a kounselor. Thank you Kickapoo!!
Because I was a kounselor ... I get to have silly, absurd stories.
I can handle bugs...for the most part.
I get to eat blueberry squares.
I take a breath before responding to a situation (or at least try to).
I learned that the best way for me to have a great day is to make sure everyone I'm around does.
I get to call some of the best people I've ever met my best friends.
I keep trying to be as cool as I hope my campers think I am.
I get to hang out with the coolest campers.
Because I was a kounselor... My eyes have been opened to the joy of serving and helping others.
Because I was a kounselor, I know what it feels like to laugh until I can’t breathe, to accomplish something I would’ve thought impossible just a week before, and to love the other kounselors and kampers so much that saying goodbye at the end of the summer is impossible without massive amounts of tears. Being a Kickapoo kounselor changed my life in so many ways, and I know without a doubt that I will keep the memories close to my heart forever.
Because I was a kounselor... I got to really open up and be a person I never thought I could be with a hundred people I have never met before. It is truly a life changing experience! My life lessons learned at Kickapoo have changed me for the better and have shown me that I am basically one of the superheroes in these little girls’ lives. ♥
Because I was a Kounselor, I made great friendships and worked with many amazing people this summer.
Because I was a kounselor... I am now able to have more patience with everyday things with myself and other people. Patience is something I was missing before I became a kounselor, being with young girls taught me that time is important, and nothing should be rushed!
Because I was a kounselor… I have become more patient, understanding, flexible and empathetic. I have learned what it truly means to put others before yourself, to smile through hard times, and the importance of being present in the moment. I have learned what an impact one kind gesture can have, and that sometimes, all it takes is patience and a lot of love to make a difference in someone’s life.
I have an amazing summer to look back on filled with new friends, laughter, and fun.
I made new friends, and I'm not as shy around people now.
Because I was a kounselor, I got to meet people that have forever changed my world, from 6 year olds to the white shirts in the office. I learned that everyone still loves you for you regardless of everyone's different views in life. I learned how diverse everyone's life is and how fortunate we are to come back to a place where there is only love, happiness and a big family. I learned how to be there for others and how listening and giving hugs can make someone's world brighter. I learned that the amazing campers love often end up teaching us new life lessons. I learned that killing a bug, or cupping and releasing it can make you the cabin hero. I learned that we don't have to worry about boys until we're 30!
Because I was a kounselor I became better at random dancing, at laughing, at making people smile, at helping others find the bright side of everything in life and I learned that if you give the world the best you have, the best will come back to you.
Because I was a kounselor, I learned how to lead and take care of myself along with 8+ kampers, and I made life-long friends.
