Kickapoo Kamp for Girls

SUMMERS 2020 and 2021 at Kickapoo Kamp were SUCCESSFUL with ZERO cases of COVID-19

Summertime Fun!

(Owner/Director of Kickapoo Kamp)

It was a journey to be able to welcome kampers to Kickapoo for SUMMER 2020. There were many twists and turns as we made our plan, and our families stood by us through it all. With every challenge, we would go back to our core belief that girls needed kamp more than ever.

More than anything, we feel grateful. We are thankful to our executive staff for planning and replanning, assuring that kamp was both fun and as safe as we could make it. We appreciate our kounselors and staff, including kitchen staff and facilities/maintenance staff more than we can express in words. They did everything we asked of them and made countless sacrifices so that we could give kampers the Kickapoo experience. We also want to express our gratitude to our kamp families.  Thank you for trusting us with your daughter.  We realize we asked a great deal. Your steadfast support of changing schedules and required protocols made it possible for us to have all three terms without incident. It was clear that doing the right thing was at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Without the support of all of these groups, we could not have opened our gates this summer, and we are so proud that it all worked.  Everyone who was a part of Kickapoo’s 2020 summer believed in the power of camp and its transformational force. We all know the value of living in community, away from all of the comforts of home, and we appreciate the influence of a committed staff of kounselors who have the uncanny knack for spreading joy and fostering relationships among kampers while creating an environment where kampers can feel comfortable being themselves.

Thank you to all parties for deciding that the risk of sending girls to kamp this summer was worth the reward.

We will never forget this summer for so many reasons. It is different from any other summer.  The photos with masks and colored bracelets will remind us of this unique summer, but when I think of this summer, I will always think of the people who jumped through hoops so that kampers could have a summer that included kamp.

Thank you for all of it.  We hope the memories sustain us all until next summer!

Stay safe and healthy,

Summertime Fun!

We hope that we can have Kamp as normal for 2022, but if we cannot, we are prepared and will be ready to host another fabulous summer at Kickapoo!

Laura (mother of a 7-year-old kamper)

“Thank you SO MUCH to you and your wonderful staff and counselors for making this summer possible. I had no idea what to expect going into our first year of Kamp during a pandemic, but your communication and determination made us feel confident and safe that our daughter was in good hands. She had all very good things to say about Kamp, and I just could not be more impressed. Looking forward to many summers to come.”

Ed & Tina (parents of 16-year-old and 17-year-old kampers)

“We owe you a debt of gratitude and thanks too! Kamp was a much-needed time for our daughters. And the fact that you were willing to bend over backwards, ask the tough questions and make the tough decisions for it to happen will never be forgotten. The closest thing to normal this summer for our girls was Kamp! Thank you for that much needed respite and joy for them, and for all the girls who attended.”

Ashley (mother of a 9-year-old kamper)

“I am not sure words can truly articulate how amazing our daughter’s Kamp experience was and how we are so grateful you all put in place the appropriate health protocols so she could attend her first year at Kamp. It was truly the highlight of 2020 for her. She made new friends that she talks to daily now, has opened up to trying new foods because she tried them at Kamp and it was delicious, and I am just so thankful for the gift you all gave her with Kamp- life lessons and memories she will treasure always. She is already signed up for next year and can’t wait to go.

“Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to our girls. It truly was such a blessing in our lives during such a tough year.”

Susan (mother of a 14-year-old kamper)

“We are so grateful Laura!! Thank you to YOU! And to Myrtle and Angie and Larry and Susie and all of the VIP's (very important people!) who make Kickapoo what it is for these girls.

“We just can't thank you enough for all of the extra everything that had to be done to make it happen. We know it was hours upon hours of challenges.

“Last night our daughter said, "I forgot there was a pandemic and that the world was upside down once I got to kamp" - music to our ears!  Even with all of the masking and new processes in place she still felt the freedom, unplugged from technology and got to have the amazing human connection we all need.

You likely know by now that she is a full-fledged introvert- kamp is one of the places she's really been able to come out of that shell and we've always been grateful for that.  This year especially!

“Please share our gratitude with everyone on your team and in your family. It really was a summer to remember.

Thank you again for all and everything and we'll see you next summer.”
